The growth in demand for wood and wood based panels has been accompanied by a growth in products on the UK market, much of it imported, claiming to provide effective fire protection in compliance with European Standards and Construction Products Regulations CE mark compliance. There is a lot of confusion out there and the consequences of getting a flame retardant specification wrong can be significant for lives, property and jobs.

To help specifiers and building control officers get it right, the Wood Protection Association (WPA) has published a new Specification Manual for Flame Retardant Treatments for Wood & Wood Based Products. WPA has the full backing of the Construction Products Association, TTF, BWF, Confor, UKFPA and STA in making the case for the use of effective, CE marked flame retardant wood products in construction.
